Strokes Used
This style uses a traditional Chinese penhold grip, and attacks with drives or smashes from the forehand side, combined with blocks and pushes from the backhand side.
Distance from the Table
Players of this style play close to the table (within 3-4 feet), mainly due to the difficulty in generating power from the backhand side, and the fact that the flatter drive style game is more effective close to the table.
Typical Equipment
Short pimpled rubber is used, usually with thick sponge. Booster or speed glue may or may not be used at high levels, depending on the player’s preference. The type of blade is offensive or faster.
Popularity
This style has been on the decline on the world level since the late 1980’s, and now has only a handful of exponents in the top ranks.
