reverse penhold backhand (rpb) grip

Definition: The reverse penhold backhand grip uses the back of the penhold racket to hit the ball with topspin on the backhand.

This variation of the penhold grip was first popularized at the world level by Liu Guoliang of China in the mid 1990’s, and Ma Lin in the late 1990’s. Wang Hao was the first professional player to use the rpb backhand almost exclusively during matches.
