double bounce serve

Definition: Technically, a double bounce serve in ping-pong is a serve where, if left untouched by the receiver, the ball would bounce twice only on the receiver’s side of the table.

In practice, the term is usually used to describe serves whose second bounce on the receiver’s side would be within six inches or so of the opponent’s end line. This serve is very popular in modern table tennis, for a multitude of reasons.

Also Known As: half long serve, finger breaker serve, knuckle breaker serve
